STUART, FL, Dec. 23, 2024 – An outdated local sports field is getting a much-needed makeover this holiday season thanks to the generosity of several local community partners.

For years, the Martin County High School baseball field has suffered from flooding and wear-and-tear that comes with age.

After months of work, which included scraping 40 years of organic material from the nearly 3-acre site, more than 110,000 square feet of fresh sod will be laid on the new field Monday.

These improvements taking place at Martin County's oldest high school also include the addition of 2,200 tons of fresh sand and fill, along with 6 miles of new irrigation pipes.

Nearly all of the work was completed by a public-private partnership between Martin County High School and the McNicholas Family Foundation, as well as community partners The Ranch and Star Turf Farms.

The new sod will be installed Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, arriving at 8 a.m.
